The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised. (Luke4:18)
Let’s look at every point Jesus said He was anointed to preach:
*To the captives, deliverance.
*To the brokenhearted, healing.
*To the blind, recovering of sight.
*To the bruised, liberty.
*To the poor, the gospel.
In this Scripture, we see the Lord Jesus speaking to specific people about their specific needs. And for this purpose, He was anointed(Acts10:38). He was telling the blind they don’t need to be blind, He was bringing healing to the brokenhearted, He was telling captives they could be free and He was preaching the Gospel(Good News) to the poor. So, what Good News was he telling those poor folks? He was telling them they need not be poor anymore!
This Scripture points out to us that what the poor really needs is not money, what they need is not food nor clothing nor shelter as against the norm. What they need is the Good Word of God into their spirit, what they need is the Good News of God’s grace and fullness. What the poor needs to hear is that God has prospered them in Christ Jesus (This is the Gospel).
The poor needs to come into the reality of God’s blessings through the Gospel. Ephesians1:3 says “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ”. It is in Christ that God has blessed us, we need come into Christ to enjoy richly this blessings of God (This is the Gospel-truth a poor man can ever hear in his life).
Psalm112:1-3 tells us that a man that fears the Lord and delights in His words shall be blessed and wealth and riches shall be in his house. This implies that your spiritual standing profoundly affects your financial standing. That is why when you get hold of the Gospel and you begin to prosper spiritually in the knowledge of God, you can begin to prosper financially and materially as well.
“For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich” 2Corinthians8:9. This is the Gospel. Isn’t it a good news! For your sake, Jesus became poor that you might be rich. What a glorious Gospel! What a great news!! Whao!!!
I bet you to receive this Good News into your spirit, it will transform you into who God wants you to be. You’re not meant to die suffering, Christ has already done the suffering. For your sake and mine, He become broke and offer His true riches. Receive His Word and confess His Lordship and you will experience newness even in your finances.
