I KNOW WHO I AM (1)

Today, we will begin a study on “I KNOW WHO I AM”. We want to closely consider our new identity in Christ Jesus. And in considering this, we will look basically at three bullet points viz; “Who God says I am”, “What God says I have” and “Where God says I am”.
The study of this subject is vital because many believers don’t really know who they are, they believe they are just Christians and they are meant to avoid sin, be nice to people, give offerings and tithe, go to church, ask God for their daily bread, pray and sing and then go to Heaven. Yes, all these are good and part of what we should know and do, but been a Christian is far more much than all these, we are not just forgiven and redeemed, we have been called with a higher calling and made partakers of God’s fullness.
The truth is that Jesus death and resurrection has brought us a new identity and by the help of the Holy Spirit, the understanding of our new identity will be unveiled to us as we go forth in this study.
In this issue, we will begin with the first bullet-point; “Who God says I am”. Yeah, there is a world of difference between who God says we are and who some of us thinks we are.
WHO GOD SAYS I AM
God says we are a new creature, a new species, a brand new person, a new being from another class and order. – “When someone becomes a Christian he becomes a brand new person inside. He is not the same any more. A new life has begun” 2Cor.5:17 TLB.
God says we are born after another birth system. – “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever” 1Pt.1:23.
God says we are free from the law of sin and death, we are no more subject to sin and death. -“For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death” Rom.8:2.
God says we are dead to sin. – “Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Christ Jesus our Lord” Rom.6:11.
God says we are delivered from darkness. – “Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son” Col.1:13.
God says we are free. – “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage” Gal.5:1.
God says we are redeemed from the curse of the law. – “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree” Gal.3:13.
God says we are bought wiÞh a price. – “For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s” 1Cor.6:20.
God says we are His righteousness. – “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him” 2Cor.5:21.
God says we are justified freely by His grace. – “Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus” Rom.3:24.
This revelation of God concerning us is found in His Holy Word. Sense knowledge (the knowledge gained through seeing, hearing, smelling, touching and tasting) and our varying circumstances may not reveal the same and in reality contradict this revelation, but when we stand on the naked Word of God alone, God confirms His Word.
The Holy Spirit expounds this realities in our heart as He gives us more insight in the Word of God as pertaining who God says we are in Christ Jesus. Amen! More of this reality will be revealed to us in the next published issue.
