“For we walk by faith, not by sight” 2 Corinthians 5:7.
Ours on this earth is a walk, for the life itself is a journey; it’s a journey to eternity and we walk it through.
Several men and women have walked through the shores of this earth and have held their testimony. Their ‘walk-testimony’; how they walked, what place they headed, what path they took, how fast they walked, with what they walked, how long they walked, with who they walked, etc. One of such is the wonderful testimony of Apostle Paul in 2 Timothy 4:7-8; “I have fought a good fight of faith, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” In the seventh verse he said “I have finished my course”, what do this mean? It means “I have finished my race”.
Philipians 3:20 says we are pilgrims on this earth, that our homeland is in heaven. This is so crucial to know so we don’t lose our focus and identity. Many Christians have forgotten that our stay on this earth is but for a ‘few days’, all they care is amassing wealth and fame, they have forgotten that this earth will soon pass away. We ought to see with our faith and focus on our home-in-view, where we will spend our eternity; dwelling in the very Glory of God, wrapped up in His Light. We can only imagine how glorious that Place looks like; the very Throne of God. It is by faith that we look up to Heaven knowing that there is our Home for eternity.
And though God is with us here, by His Spirit, and in His ordinances, yet we are not with Him as we hope to be. Though we have His Word with us and His Spirit counsels us, yet we look forward for our redemption from this body to be present with the Lord till eternity. Faith is for this world, and sight is for the other world. Here, we look forward in faith but then we will see even as we are seen, we will know as we are known.
For we walk by faith – While we are in this present state, faith supplies the place of direct vision. In the future ‘world’ we shall have sight- the utmost evidence of spiritual and eternal things; as we shall be present with them, and live in them. Here we have the testimony of God, and we believe in their reality, not only because we cannot doubt His Word, but because we see the reality of the Spirit by faith. And to make this more convincing he gives us the earnest of His Spirit, which is the foretaste of Glory and has quickened us in faith that we might hold on to the realities of the yet-to-come for we cannot perceive them with our physical senses.
It is our duty, and it will be our interest, to walk by faith, till we live by sight. There is no greater assurance of the blessedness of the glory that is to be revealed in us than the measure of faith that has been apportioned to us. (Hebrew 12:3, 2 Corinthians 4:17-18).
