“That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so love the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life” John 3:15-16.
“And this is the record that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God” 1John 5:11-13.
“And this is eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent” John 17:13.
Some 2,000 years ago, a rich young man asked an extremely important question of the Saviour: “Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?” ( Matt. 19:16). Having heard the Savior’s instructions and His gentle invitation to “come and follow me” ( Matt. 19:21), the rich young man “went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions” (Matt. 19:22). Tragically, millions in the world today still ask the same question: ‘what must I do to have eternal life’, not knowing or understanding the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God.
John 3:15 tells us that whosoever believes in Jesus automatically has eternal life. This verse of Scriptures and other corresponding verses didn’t in any way infer that after you believe in Jesus and get saved, you’ll have to wait or after some time, God will then consider you for life-eternal. No! It outrightly declares to us that at the very instant of believing in Jesus (salvation) you are been made a partaker of eternal life.
However, eternal life means God’s kind of Life. Having eternal life means having the same life as God both in quality and quantity. It is God’s Life in its fullness; in glory, power, victory, in longevity… Eternal life is God’s greatest gift to man, it is the highest honour God has placed upon mankind. This is what Adam lost in the garden and what Jesus came to get back for us. Eternal life is life above limitation. It is not just everlasting Life, it’s not just a life without dying, it’s Life as God has it. Success, victory, power, dominion and prosperity are vital parts of the God-kind of life. This is the life to which you’ve been called; a life in which you don’t need somebody to pray for you to make you successful or victorious. This Life is a higher life, it’s not subject to sickness, bondage or defeat.
At the instant of salvation, Eternal Life was impacted into the man’s spirit thus recreating it. This life is what gave birth to us to become new creation. So, we are no more after the old order of life, we are now born again with the newness of life.
Our Lord Jesus, in His great Intercessory Prayer in John 17, gives to all mankind the key to obtaining eternal life: “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent”. But how can man come to know the only true God? He says in John 14:6: “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” ( John 14:6). I testify that the only way we and all mankind can come unto our Heavenly Father and know Him, and thus obtain eternal life, is to come unto the Lord Jesus Christ and know Him. Knowing Him as the sent Son of God and believing His works and receiving His Lordship.
Eternal life can only be found in Jesus, as God has given Him for all men. This is a higher kind of life, where you enjoy all of God’s fullness; functioning like Him, partaking His presence and bearing His nature. This is to glorious to be ignored, it is too big to be ignored. Why not confess Lord Jesus and believes Him and receive His salvation and enjoy this Life without measure. It is life beyond reproach and death (spiritual death in hell). It is life above corruption and shame.
This life is only available in Christ Jesus. God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He that hath the Son hath life. ‘Go for Jesus, go for Life’.
